The institute caters to the needs of the younger generation and it provides the   opportunity for  students to follow the courses recognized locally and internationally. Among the Speech Examinations  Elocution, Speech and Drama are highly demanded and Written English examinations too are highly requested by the parents. Apart from them the institute pioneered the Cambridge Assessment English courses in the Southern Province and the institute is a Registration Centre of the Cambridge Assessment English for the British Council. The institute has reached the milestone with the completion of twenty long years of preparing students for Cambridge Examinations through the British Council. In addition to that the institute is a partner and a registration centre of IELTS examination. The institute provides the opportunity for the school leavers to follow the Cambridge Courses which are parallel to IELTS examination. Courses are held for those who need to be teachers especially Elocution teachers and they will be equipped with “Teaching Knowledge Test” .which is another international qualification for teachers.

History

Started in 1997 with a couple of students and with great patience, tolerance and determination Lucy Den Speech School has been established and expanded to the present standard and the level. It started with speech and elocution classes in 1997 and stepped into another avenue in 2003 giving the young Learners and Young adults of Southern Province a novel experience of gaining an International Qualification in English. The institute started preparing students for Cambridge examinations through the British Council. It has also been recognized as a Cambridge Assessment English Registration Centre for the British Council. Moving one step forward the students are privileged by giving an examination venue in Galle. Further, the institute has been recognized as a partner for the IELTS examination by the British Council in the Southern Province.

British Council has organized Students Support Sessions for the students who sit the Cambridge Examinations. The Institute organizes ‘Award Ceremonies’  annually to appreciate and encourage students’ performance at examinations.In addition, the institute provided the opportunity for the students to follow the courses and sit the Pearson Test of English[PTE][UK] a highly recognized examination locally and internationally. UK headquarters accepted the request and declared the institute as a partner and an examination centre in the Southern Province of Sri Lanka.

In the field of Elocution, the students are trained for speech Examinations through the International Institute of Music Speech and Drama[IIMSD]. This institute organizes a Festival of Music and Speech annually creating a platform for Stage performance in different avenues adjudicated by a native speaker. Lucy Den Speech School has won the award for the highest number of Gold Medals in this event in the past fourteen years.

Has been recognized as an Invaluable contributor towards the successful 25 years of the Festival Movement by the International Institute of Music Speech and Drama. Received an award in appreciation of the commitment and the dedicated service rendered to the British Council Sri Lanka as an  Examiner for Cambridge Assessment English towards remarkable success.

Received an award in appreciation of the highest regional contribution in 2019 to the British Council as a registration centre for Cambridge Assessment English. Won a  ‘Life Time Achievement’ award in appreciation and recognition for the unwavering support to the British Council as a registration centre for Cambridge on 17th March 2023.
